Melis Alphan

She was born in 1978 in Izmir. After completing Özel Amerikan Lisesi, she received her undergraduate degree in Fashion Design Technology at London College of Fashion. She studied for a term on a university scholarship at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

She started her career as fashion editor for Vizyon magazine in 2001. She then worked as a correspondent for Radikal, a national daily newspaper. She was transferred to another national daily, Milliyet, in 2003 as the editor for the Popular Culture supplement. She worked as correspondent, editor and columnist for Milliyet and its supplements.

She started writing for the daily Hürriyet in 2009, and dealt mainly with environmental issues, climate change, women’s and children’s rights as well on violations of rights. Following her resignation from Hürriyet in 2018, she worked as a columnist for Cumhuriyet for a brief period and then decided to carry on in her career as a freelance writer and journalist. She has received a great number of awards, including the one given by the Association of Turkish Journalists for “The Best Interview.”

She provides consultancy for House of Impact regarding strategic copywriting and planning.
